The main goal of the workshop is to create a white paper presenting the current and future research trends concerning the wide scientific area the ERCIM-DIS workgroup members are involved. This white paper would be useful for the achievement of a common understanding within the workgroup members and the development of prosperous collaborations in the framework of the EU funding programs.\n\nThe objective of the ERCIM DIS WG is to build a strong network of researchers in the fields of data and information spaces. Of special importance is the development of methods and tools to make digital, cultural and scientific content available, searchable and accessible for all kinds of users. Also relevant will be the storage, preservation and curation of all types of data, including primary and scientific data. Other relevant issues will be scalability, intelligent information management and interoperability, which should be achieved on multiple levels (schema, repository as well system). \n\nTherefore the main topics expected to be covered will be (but not limited to):\n*\tInfrastructures and services for DIS\n*\tLarge scale DIS (corporations, research/e-Science, private/family, etc.)\n*\tLong-term preservation and curation in DIS\n*\tDIS and interoperability (data and metadata schemas, processes between systems, etc.)\n*\tDIS in specific contexts (such as geo-referenced/spatial, temporal, etc.)\n*\tBusiness processes and workflows in DIS (information life-cycle management, etc.)\n*\tOther issues in DIS, such as Open access, Open Archives, Federated repositories, etc.\n\nInterested participants are invited to present their (organization's) plans and viewpoints for research in the DIS area for the next 5 years, documented by existing systems, services or technologies or innovative ideas for new projects or actions requiring the cooperation of other participants \u2013 experts on complementary domains.\n\nThe proposals, in the form of position papers (3 to 5 pages) should be submitted by email to the workshop co-chairs Christos Papatheodorou (papatheodor@ionio.gr) and Yannis Stavrakas (yannis@imis.athena-innovation.gr).\n\nDepending of the capacity of the room, the participation in the workshop will be open to all the interested, even if the participant does not have submitted a proposal.\nThe main workshop will be organized from 09:00 to 17:30. A social dinner, open to all the interested participants, may be arranged.\n\n== Organization ==\n* Christos Papatheodorou Ionian Univ. and Institute for the Management of Information Systems Athena RC, Greece\n* Ingeborg T.
