The "Data and Information Spaces" Working Group has been disbanded

The ERCIM Digital Patient Working Group has been built around the strengths of the participating ERCIM and non-ERCIM institutions and researchers. This Working Group should contribute significantly to the promotion of Virtual Physiological Human (VPH) research across Europe in synergy with other initiatives (e.g. the Europhysiome coordination action) in order to exploit what has been done so far and avoid duplication of relevant research work.

'''Objective'''
Participants have expressed strong interest in developing a theoretical framework for integrating mathematical models in different scales (from molecular to tissue/organ). This is a particularly challenging problem for the VPH (Virtual Physiological Human) research.

The objective of the ''ERCIM Working Group on Data and Information Spaces'' is to build a strong network of researchers in the fields of information repositories and digital libraries.

Of special importance is to develop methods and tools to make digital, cultural and scientific content available, searchable and accessible for all kinds of users. Interoperability should be achieved on schema levels, repository levels as well as system levels.
The ERCIM Digital Patient Working Group is a partner in the Virtual Physiological Human Network of Excellence ([http://www.vph-noe.eu/ VPH-NoE]), where it proposes an "exemplar project" on modelling and visualizing brain function and pathophysiology.

''Areas of interest:''
Possible synergies with other EU initiatives on VPH, especially STEP and @neurIST are being investigated, and cooperation is strongly encouraged.

- Metadata on schema levels, repository levels, system levels
The participants discussed the possibility that the ERCIM WG could be the basis of a strong consortium for EC proposals, which will be determined in the near future.

- Interoperability on schema levels, repository levels, system levels

The "Data and Information Spaces" Working Group has been disbanded

Objective

The objective of the ERCIM Working Group on Data and Information Spaces is to build a strong network of researchers in the fields of information repositories and digital libraries.

Of special importance is to develop methods and tools to make digital, cultural and scientific content available, searchable and accessible for all kinds of users. Interoperability should be achieved on schema levels, repository levels as well as system levels.

Areas of interest:

- Metadata on schema levels, repository levels, system levels

- Interoperability on schema levels, repository levels, system levels

- Multi-media Repository development, including text, software, datasets, audio, and video documents

- Multi-media Content management (in business, research, homes, etcetera)

- Open access, Open Archives, Federated repositories

- Long-term preservation and curation of digital objects
