Overview

The ERCIM eMobility group dedicates its research to mobile applications and services that require technical solutions on various levels. Some examples of such solutions are communication architectures and protocols supporting mobility of users and devices or middleware to support security and flexibility. The eMobility workshop targets problems related to future applications and services based on mobile and wireless technologies.

The MobiSense workshop (Opportunistic Sensing and Processing in Mobile Wireless Sensor and Cellular Networks) is dedicated to the collaboration and interoperability among wireless sensor networks and other wireless networks. These border research topics are of interests due to their potential to enhance the performance of the currently deployed wireless technologies.

For the first time the two, previously independent workshops are combined in a joint event aiming to bring together researchers from different wireless areas that share common research interests and face similar problems. Both, researchers from the scientific community (of both university and research institutes) as well as participants from the industry are welcome. The topics are chosen in suit to address network-specific problems in the areas of:

  • Network architectures
    • Wireless access networks
    • Mobile ad-hoc networks
    • Wireless sensor networks
    • Wireless mesh networks
  • Wireless network management and security
    • Security, trust and authentication
    • Monitoring
    • QoS and traffic engineering
    • Mobility management, roaming and handover support
    • Resource management
    • Re‐configurability and runtime adaptation
    • Self‐configuration within heterogeneous networks
  • Protocol design
    • Energy-efficient protocol mechanisms
    • Transport and congestion control
    • Opportunistic dissemination
    • Cross-layer protocol design
    • Mobile Peer-to-Peer
  • Distributed data processing
    • Distributed data storage and forward
    • Sensor fusion and context awareness
  • Development and deployment
    • Software development for mobile devices
    • Simulation methods and tools
    • Test-beds and prototypes
    • Wireless experimentation and measurements
  • Applications
    • Opportunistic sensing, e.g., urban and environmental monitoring
    • Social networks
    • Future mobile applications, e.g., medical, multimedia, mobile learning
    • Location-based services
    • Vehicular networking and intelligent transportation systems
    • Mobile application support, e.g., coding, content distribution, and adaptation
